Manifesto breakdown

Overview

The Northern Irish Green Party, founded in 1983, are a non-sectarian party who are viewed as holding a left-leaning position. The Green Party promote four key values: social justice, environmental sustainability, grassroots democracy and non-violence.

The Green Party has been involved in several major campaigns since entering the Northern Ireland Assembly, including clean rivers and anti-nuclear campaigns, opposition to fracking, and fighting the austerity agenda.

We gave the Green Party a score of -73% on the left/right scale, meaning that they can be viewed as a near far-left political party. When we looked at the Green Party MLA's voting records, we gave the party a score of -72% on the left/right scale when considering all votes. We can see that the Green Party's voting records on a range of motion bills are very much in line with the positions held in their parties manifesto.

From all of the parties we analysed, this is the closest that a political party has come to receive the same score for both their manifesto and voting records, with the difference only amounting to 1%. This finding would suggest that the Green Party had the most accurate manifesto, as we found that the Green Party MLA's voted very much in line with the values held in their manifesto.
