Manifesto breakdown

Overview

The People Before Profit party(PBP - Founded in 2005) is a non-sectarian party generally associated with far left views. While having representatives elected in both the ROI and NI, the party does not identify with either unionism or nationalism but runs under the designation of ‘other’ when participating in the assembly. The main reason for this designation would most likely be their ideological position, as they are self-proclaimed socialists. This was represented in our analysis of their manifesto where they scored a remarkable -91%, putting them well ahead of any other left leaning Northern Irish party. While they scored as highly left wing on most topics, they appear to have strongly held socialist beliefs on social issues, infrastructure and economic issues. This result will not surprise most, even though there was a thought in our preparation for this analysis that the PBP may ease some of their more radical views to appeal to a greater audience. We were wrong in this assumption and found that the PBP were true to their name and were completely committed to a socialist position on most issues.

It should be noted we used the 2020 Irish election manifesto for the analysis.
