SDLP rank as Moderately Left

Meaning that the SDLP are committed to moderate left policy when voting

Overview

The SDLP (founded 1970) are viewed as a nationalist centre left leaning political party, usually seen as less radical than Sinn Fein. Their manifesto received a score of -57% on the left/right scale meaning that the party can be viewed as a moderate left wing party. Their voting record saw them achieve a -64% score on the left/right scale meaning that they are even more committed to a left wing ideology than their manifesto would suggest. The difference of 7% between their scores means that their voting is not extremely dissimilar to their manifesto ideals. Realistically the difference does not change the overall view of the party drastically. However, when looking at the party MLAs, it was a surprise to see some many members scoring so highly left wing (even though some were due to a small dataset).
